Thank you to every community member who voted, volunteered, and took part in this election season—and to the partners who made our civic engagement work possible. On this historic election night, our collective voice resonated across the nation as voters decisively rejected bigotry at the polls.
Through the Civic Engagement Committee, and in partnership with Council on American Islamic Relations in San Francisco Bay Area and the Bay Area Muslim Council, MCA hosted candidate forums, ballot education sessions, and voter registration drives to ensure our community showed up informed and ready. Your participation is exactly what civic engagement looks like in practice, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who dedicated their time to this effort.
Historic Milestones Across the Nation
Tuesday night brought landmark victories that will shape American public life for generations to come:
- Michigan Makes History: Voters elected Dr. Abdul El-Sayed to the U.S. Senate, making him the first Muslim ever elected to the chamber. Despite facing a campaign where his faith and loyalty were openly attacked, voters rejected divisive rhetoric in favor of leadership and unity.
- Texas Chooses Inclusivity: In a stunning political shift, James Talarico secured a seat in the U.S. Senate after a campaign distinguished by his direct engagement with Muslim voters and vocal opposition to Islamophobia.
- A New Era for Texas Leadership: Concurrently, Gina Hinojosa defeated incumbent Governor Greg Abbott, delivering a powerful rebuke to past rhetoric targeting Muslim-led developments and calling for harmful state investigations.
Moving Forward Together
This was not only a night of firsts. It was a night when voters across the country—in Michigan, Texas, and beyond—declared that bigotry is a losing argument and that American Muslims belong fully in public life.
Thank you for being an essential part of this story. Our work does not stop here. It continues this Friday at our General Body Meeting, where your voice will help shape MCA’s path for the year ahead. We look forward to seeing you there.
