MCA GIS Board Elections/March 2019 General Body Meeting

Assalamu-Alaikum Dear GIS Parents,

We pray to Allah (SWT) this letter finds you in good health and high Islamic spirits. We are pleased to inform you that the upcoming GIS Board election will be held on March 8th and continue during the March General Body Meeting on March 9th.

Please note that you must be an MCA member by March 7th 6:00 PM to vote so please review your membership status at http://www.mcabayarea.org/about-us/membership

Open positions

The following board members are ending their terms this year:

  • Khadiga El Hadad.
  • Najeeb Hashmi.
  • Atef Ibrahim.

Two (2) of these positions are to be filled by elections and one is to be appointed by the MCA Executive Board (EB).

Dates & Locations

  1. The deadline to receive nominations will be on Friday, February 15th at 9:00 PM. The Election committee will be available Friday, Feb 15, 2019, from 8:30 PM - 9:00 PM at Aisha Hall, MCA. We request that any nomination withdrawals happen before March 1st to give us time to update the community.

  2. A Candidate Forum will be held to introduce the new candidates on Sunday the 24th of February from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Khadija Hall, MCA.

  3. The GIS Elections will be held on March 8th in addition to a single hour slot during the GBM. The details of the locations and times for voting are as follows:
  • Friday, March 8th at the Myriam Hall, MCA

7:30 AM to 8:30 AM

○ 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM

6:30 PM to 7:30 PM

  • Saturday, March 9th at the Khadija Hall, MCA during the GBM

11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

  1. The GIS General Body Meeting (GBM) will be held on Saturday the 9th of March from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Khadija Hall, MCA.

Eligibility requirements to participate in GIS elections process

  • For Voters:

○ To be eligible to vote you must be a parent of GIS student and a member of the MCA. For this year's elections, you must renew or become an MCA member before 6:00 PM on March 7th[1].

○ Each family unit will constitute one voting member. A family unit is defined as parents or guardians of the child or children who are attending GIS.

You must vote in person. Absentee ballots are not available for the GIS elections.

○ To be able to vote on Election Day you must present a valid photo ID such as State of California Driver license, California ID, US Green Card or Passport.

If you are a legal guardian and would like to vote, please bring a letter from the GIS Business office attesting to the fact and mentioning the student ID in question.

  • For Nominators:

To be eligible to nominate or second the nomination you must be a parent of GIS student and a member of the MCA before the nomination deadline stated above.

  • For Nominees:

To be eligible for nomination you must be MCA members before the nomination deadline stated above.

[1] This year, the membership committee will be compiling the final membership list to be used for the elections at the at the last possible moment (March 7th at 6:00 PM). This will give us just enough time to print out the lists to be ready for the elections at 7:30 AM the next day. We appreciate you renewing or completing your membership at the earliest possible time to help the election process be as smooth as possible.
