ARCC’s Mental Health Services is an innovative and comprehensive approach to meet the individual needs of youth and their families who are at high risk for incarceration, educational failure, runaway behavior, substance and drug abuse, violence and other delinquent behavior. Based on Santa Clara County’s Project Cornerstone development assets approach, Mental Health Services supports the healthy development of all youth by recognizing and building on their strengths rather than simply reacting to their problems. By providing intensive intervention efforts that focus on the emotional, mental and behavioral health of high-risk children and their families, the long-term health risks associated with delinquent and dysfunctional behaviors will be reduced. Families who are successful in accessing and receiving long-term, linguistically and culturally appropriate mental health services have far-reaching, and potentially long-term, health benefits. What makes ARCC’s programming particularly effective is that it is not only designed to reach and respond to families in crisis, but to go beyond—promoting their long-term stability through a combination of intensive mental health therapy, follow-up, after-care and referrals. ARCC’s services are available free of charge to youth and their families living in Santa Clara County.

CARE stands for Caring Adults, Respectful Environments, is based on the premise that parents, through a balanced expression of care, can promote healthy development and healing by serving as agents of therapeutic change. This approach is developmentally grounded and rooted in a belief in the capacity of children and families to rebound from adversity strengthened and more resourceful. The CARE Parent Therapy approach helps parents build on their strengths as parents and understand where they can develop further to support their child or adolescent’s growth. For example, we help parents identify and cultivate:
Tolerance and limit setting
Praise and consequences
Support and challenge
We provide counseling and psychotherapy for children and adolescents, parents, and individual family members.

Center for Healthy Development 408.298.8111
100 N. Winchester Suite 275 Santa Clara
The Center for Healthy Development (CHD) has been a pioneer in providing long term individual and group therapy for children in Santa Clara County. CHD recognizes the need for distressed children to have their own “safe haven” with a specially-trained child therapist who can help them express their internal emotional concerns and struggles.
Children’s Play Therapy Children use play to communicate about their thoughts and feelings. Many children, even those with good verbal skills, feel more comfortable using play as their form of communication. Staff therapists are trained to closely observe a child in order to understand what that child is trying to communicate through the different types of play, and to help them build their own emotional vocabulary. Parents sometimes think that nothing is happening when the child's sessions consist primarily of play, but this is the basic therapeutic tool of child therapy, and a child may be working very hard in therapy without it being obvious to the parent.
When a child enters treatment, it is customary for the parents to meet with the therapist first, and to have periodic adjunct sessions in which they can voice concerns, and to hear about the child's progress.
Children’s Socialization Group
Children's Socialization Group is an opportunity to help children who are having difficulty in their peer relationships learn new skills to make and keep friends.
New Skills and Choices program is to ensure that children and families within the Family Court System will have the necessary health, developmental and social underpinnings to assist their success in life. The programs are a comprehensive and integrated continuum of care consisting of three levels: prevention, intervention, and intensive intervention.
