MCA to follow Fiqh Council Decision

The Fiqh Council of North America and the ISNA Majlis Ash-Shura after careful research, deliberations and discussion has adopted a new position regarding the determination of the beginning of the Islamic lunar months. This position, including a 50+ page analysis and a PowerPoint presentation is available at http://www.isna.net.

MCA's long standing policy is to follow ISNA's decision regarding the start and end of Ramadan and for the two Eid's. The MCA Executive Committee after consideration of this opinion and in consultation with scholars and community elders has decided to follow this decision.

Based on this decision, the first day of fasting will be on Saturday, September 23, 2006 and Eid ul Fitr will be on Monday, October 23, 2006. The first Taraweeh prayers will be on Friday, September 22, 2006 starting with Isha at 8:45 PM. Eid ul Adha will continue to be celebrated with the Hujaj on the day after Arafat.
