Islamic Studies:

Objectives:

  • Understand the basic beliefs and teachings of Islam in order to be a practicing and responsible Muslim.
  • Understand how to perform Salah before the age when it becomes mandatory.
  • Have an appreciation for and understanding of Islamic history and the life of Rasulullah (SAW).
  • Develop a strong sense of morality through the understanding of the Quran and Hadith.
  • Practice proper Islamic etiquette and manners.

Class Placement:

Students are placed in their Islamic Studies class based on their grade level in regular day school.

Topics Covered:

Ibadah, Aqidah, Salah, Seerah, Islamic History, Akhlaq

Grading System:

Students stay in their Islamic Studies class all year. Students receive a Fall semester grade and a Spring Semester grade. The teacher determines whether a student passes to the next level the following academic year by averaging the Fall and Spring grades.

Quranic Studies:

Objectives:

  • Memorize Surahs with Tajweed.
  • Understand the meanings and significance of the Surahs that are memorized.
  • Learn Tajweed for the purpose of reciting the Quran with the correct pronunciation.

Class Placement:

Students are placed in their Quranic Studies class based on the Surahs they know from the 30 Juz’.

Class Levels:

Memorize Close to Half of the 30th Juz’ of the Holy Quran)

  • Level 1: Al-Fatiha, An-Nas, Al-Falaq, Al-Ikhlas
  • Level 2: Al-Lahab, An-Nasr, Al-Kafirun, Al-Kawthar
  • Level 3: Al-Maun, Quraish, Al-Fil, Ayah – tul - Kursi
  • Level 4: Al-Humazah, Al-Asr, At-Takathur, Al-Qariah
  • Level 5: Al-Adiyat, Az-Zalzalah, Al-Bayyinah, Al-Qadr
  • Level 6: Al-Alaq, At-Tin, Al-Inshirah, Ad-Duha
  • Level 7: Al-Lail, As-Shams, Al-Balad

Grading Components:

  • Surah Memorization, Pronunciation/Recitation, Surah Meaning
  • Levels 6 & 7: Application of Tajweed rules to Quran recitation, Recognition of Tajweed rules while reciting Quran, Reading fluency while observing learned Tajweed rules

Students will be graded as follows in Levels 1-5: Surah Recitation Tests: 50%, Surah Meaning Tests: 50%. Students will be graded as follows in Levels 6-7: Surah Recitation tests (50%), Surah Meaning (25%) and Knowledge of Tajweed rules within Surah (25%).

Arabic:

Objectives:

  • Read the Quran fluently and with the correct pronunciation.
  • Write and spell Arabic letters and words in the correct manner.
  • For Arabic as a Language Classes: Speak, read, and understand Arabic.

Class Placement:

Students are placed in their Arabic class based on their skill level in reading Arabic.

Topics Covered:

The primary emphasis in Arabic is on learning the qa’idah with the goal of reading the Quran. Students are tested on their reading, writing, and pronunciation skills. Students who are able to read the Quran fluently take Arabic as a Language, where students learn Arabic grammar and vocabulary.

Class Levels:

Level 1: Alphabet, fatha, damma, kasra, transformations

Level 2: Long vowels (alif, waw, ya), tanween

Level 3: Sukoon, shadda

Level 4: Reading practice and dictation

Level 5: Arabic as a Language 1: Basic grammar construction and vocabulary.

Level 6: Arabic as a Language 2: Intermediate-level grammar construction and vocabulary.

Level 7: Arabic as a Language 3: Advanced grammar construction and vocabulary.

Grading Components:

Students will be graded on the following skills, in order of importance.

  • Reading fluency and recognition of letters
  • Pronunciation (corresponding to the computer software)
  • Dictation, i.e. the teacher will read the word aloud, and the student must write it correctly
  • Writing skills
