Of Taiwanese descent, Abdul Rahman Chao grew up in California for most of his life. He finished memorizing Quran under the guidance of some of the students of world known reciter Abdul Basit Abdus-Samad. He later moved to Virginia, finished his high school studies and completed the Arabic Degree from the Islamic Institute of Arabic and Sciences in America (IIASA) or commonly known as the "Mahad."
After getting accepted into the Islamic University of Medina, Abdul Rahman completed the Arabic program and moved on to the College of Dawah and Theology and graduated in 2006. While in Medina, he was blessed with the opportunity to learn from many scholars of different backgrounds.
After finishing 5 years of study in Medina, Abdul Rahman Chao was blessed with the opportunity to continue higher studies but opted for Dawah opportunities back in the United States.
Besides English, he is fluent in Arabic, Mandarin and is rumored to occasionally take a jab at Urdu. With the cultural fusion of an 'East-meets-West' background, Abdul Rahman Chao has an uncanny ability to relate to diverse audiences, despite their varying ages.
Participants in the past have commented they enjoy his refreshingly unique style of expressiveness in connecting with his audience.
Abdul Rahman Chao is currently the Imam of Nueces Mosque in downtown Austin.
